These courses are independent research courses, in which students have an opportunity to perform a research work in the faculty’s laboratory.

How to register the course?

Students contact a faculty and get a special permission number to register the course.

Students are expected to take 50:120:491 first, then, take 50:120:492 in the following semester. The course is a variable credit course. A typical course is for three credits; 9 hours laboratory work per week.

Minimum expectation

Each professor sets the guidelines requirements to make the course work satisfactory. The following is the minimum expectations from all students that are registered in 491/492.

    • Students are expected to learn basic laboratory skills and necessary theoretical concepts necessary for an independent research work.
    • Students are not expected to have an independent research project, although a professor may determine if the student is ready to perform an independent research project.
    • Students are encouraged to attend the weekly departmental seminars.
    • Students are required to participate the Biology Day and present a poster.

    • Students are expected to have an independent research project.
    • Students are required to register the departmental seminars course (50:120:494).
    • Students are required to participate the Biology Day and present a poster.
    • This course can be a PA/F grade course if a student is taking this for your own benefit.
    • This course can be a Letter grade course If a student wants to use this course as an elective lab course,
      • Register the course minimum 3 credit course.
