The effect of mercury on the establishment of Pinus rigida seedlings and the development of their Ectomycorrhizal communities.
Crane, S., Barkay, T. Dighton, J. (2012) Fungal Ecology 5: 245-251.
The effects of Hg on the growth of tree seedlings and the development of ectomycorrhizal communities showed seedloing survival declined with increasing Hg additions and addition of 88 mg g_1 Hg more than halved the total ectomycorrhizal colonization and reduced richness and diversity of root tip morphotypes, suggesting that changes in the mycorrhizal community occur before any aboveground effects on surviving seedlings are noticeable.
