Working memory (WM) is the online retention and manipulation of a small amount of information to guide behavior. There are discrepancies across studies investigating sex differences in WM in humans. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) impairs WM and women show increased prevalence and rate of cognitive decline in AD. Fischer F-344 strain of rats is the background strain for an AD rat model, however, the circuits implicated in WM have been determined in the Long-Evan rat strain. Here, we investigated whether there are strain or sex differences in a working memory task.
