The ecological niche, which describes the environmental conditions needed for a species and the roles that species play, is a fundamental concept in ecology. Many studies have used the ecological niche as a means of understanding patterns of diversity, species interactions, and community structure. Trophic niches are a promising approach for understanding diversity patterns along latitudinal gradients, as the underlying mechanisms of these patterns are still debated. In this study, we investigated ecological niche characteristics, specifically niche breadth and overlap, of aquatic invertebrates along a latitudinal gradient.
