Welcome to the Department of Biology at Rutgers–Camden.
The Department comprises a diverse and highly interactive group of faculty, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students. We thrive to provide an environment that encourages research and learning across the biological sciences, ranging from molecules to ecosystems. We are particularly focused on experiential learning and offer many opportunities for students to engage with faculty in both the classroom and research laboratories.
Our faculty have joint appointments in the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology (CCIB), which links all STEM disciplines across our campus. We recently consolidated many STEM faculty members into a modern, state-of-the-art building, The Joint Health Science Center, which provides a unique cross-disciplinary collaborative environment to explore biological systems.
Research faculty in the Biology Department are internationally recognized, nationally awarded, and consistently funded by federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, American Heart Association, and others. Funded projects range from RNA evolution, mitochondrial energetics, bacterial shape dynamics, circadian rhythms, developmental biology, adaptive animal evolution, and paleo-ecology.
Our website provides detailed information about our program, highlighting each faculty member, support groups and administrative staff. We are proud to offer a program of excellence for talented students who strive to become the next generation of mainstream biologists. We facilitate career development in different biological science avenues through formal guidance and offer comprehensive experimental learning. The Rutgers–Camden campus provides ample of opportunities to work directly with our faculty members and interact with postdocs and graduate students enrolled in the Biology and CCIB graduate programs.
